Description

Psilocybe Azurescens

Psilocybe Azurescens they golden mushrooms found across the Pacific Northwest. The concentration of the psychoactive biochemicals psilocybin and psilocin is higher here than in any other mushrooms like Psilocybe Cubensis and Psilocybe cyanescens.

it produce intensely powerful hallucinations and transcendent journeys of great personal impact from minor consumption. It is among the most potent of the tryptamine-bearing mushrooms, containing up to 1.8% psilocybin, 0.5% psilocin, and 0.4% baeocystin by dry weight, averaging to about 1.1% psilocybin and 0.15% psilocin.

The cap of Psilocybe azurescens is 3-10cm across. Its shape is conic to convex but as it grows older, it flattens with a pronounced, nipple-like protrusion called the umbo. The cap surface is smooth, viscous when moist, and is covered by a gelatinous substance called the pellicle.

  1. azurescens is ochre to caramel in color but becomes pitted with dark blue or bluish black ones. Its color also changes based on its moisture. When dry, it fades to a light straw color with strong blue bruises when damaged.

It also has a long, silky white stem or stipe which reaches 9 to 20cm in length and 0.3-0.6 in thickness. Base of the stem thickens downwards and is often curved, characterized by coarse, white, aerial tufts of mycelium, often with azure tones.

The mycelium towards the base of the stipe is densely root-like, tenaciously holding the wood chips together.

Psilocybe azurescens may be the strongest psilocybin mushroom out there but it’s also the least palatable because of its extremely bitter taste.

Locations of Psilocybe Azurescens

They  grows in tight, separated clusters on wood chips or in sandy soils rich in woody debris in late September until early January. This fungus has a tendency to grow on coastal dune grasses. Wherever it chooses to grow, it cause the whitening of wood.

This species grows naturally in coastal dune grasses along a small area of the United States’ West Coast. It has also been seen in Depoe Bay, Oregon, and as far north as Grays Harbor County, Washington. Some wild specimens have also been reported in Stuttgart, Germany.

Psilocybe azurescens has been cultivated in Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United States.

 Azurescens Outdoor Cultivation

Psilocybe azurescens prefer to grow in colder, wetter places. Therefore, they’re not ideal to grow indoors. If you have a small yard where the sun is always shining, growing Psilocybe azurescens is not for you. You should live in a place where the autumn season is cold and wet. As an additional consideration, it’s important to lay the bed where the mushrooms will be safe throughout the year

P.azurescens also come up during autumn and right before the beginning of winter. To whole process from preparing the spawn to the fruiting is a long process so it should be started as early as January.

The growing process has three phases: preparing the spawn, growing the mycelium, and growing the mushroom.

how to grow magic mushroom

The easiest way to get spawn is to start off with a bag of sterile grain which can easily be inoculated with a spore syringe. Once you have a bag of colonized grain, it can be added to a larger amount of sawdust to further spread the mycelium.

Grain spawn is the best option because it gives the fungus plenty of nutrition to feed on. Grain also guarantees a rapid and vigorous growth although improper handling may cause contamination. However, once the grain spawn is transferred to sawdust, the risk of infection drops dramatically because sawdust doesn’t attract as many microorganisms.

Mycelium

The actual process of impregnating the sawdust with grain spawn is easy. After obtaining sawdust, sterilize them by boiling them in water for 10 minutes. Drain the sawdust and then start layering it in another bucket with your inoculated grain. Cover with a lid or place the now-layered bucket in a large plastic bag to help maintain humidity.

Allow fresh oxygen to enter by opening the bag once a day. After a month, your sawdust will be completely inoculated and ready to be transferred outdoors.

For this outdoor grow, you will need approximately 1.2 kilograms of sawdust spawn for each square meter of mushroom patch.

Growing  Mushroom Outdoor

When creating a magic mushroom patch for Psilocybe azurescens, the first thing to consider is lighting. In general, most mushrooms require indirect sunlight. This also applies in the case of magic mushrooms. Therefore, when picking a spot for your magic mushroom patch, try picking one that has a lot of light during the day but that is not exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

If you can’t use your backyard (because of your nosy neighbors), then you should choose a site that is not too far away to walk daily. If it’s too far, you’d run the risk of missing out on a potential harvest because the patch will require daily checking during the harvest period.

Psilocybe azurescens spore

Psilocybe azurescens are best cultivated in areas where grass and shrub meet the forest because they offer easy access and environmental factors which can help them thrive. If you can’t find ideal environment such as this one, then a moist patch of land with dabbled sunlight will do just fine.

Once you have a location, you’ll just need three more things to continue:

  • Cardboard
  • Sterilized wood chips (boiled in water to kill microorganisms and prevent contamination)
  • Fully colonized sawdust spawn

Follow these instructions to create your own mushroom patch:

  1. Clear the site of debris. Strip it away of everything down to the mineral earth.
  2. Cover the area in cardboard.
  3. Cover the cardboard with a 5cm layer of sterile wood chips. Spread them out evenly and moisten.
  4. Place your first layer of sawdust spawn onto the woodchips. Make sure to distribute 400g of spawn them evenly.
  5. Place another layer of wood chips over the spawn. This layer needs to be 7cm deep. Moisten.
  6. Cover with another layer of 400g of spawn.
  7. Add 3cm of wood chips on top and moisten again.
  8. Cover with a final layer of 400g of sawdust spawn.
  9. Lock in the moisture with a cardboard.

You should be left with 3 layers of wood chips and 3 layers of spawn. Now that it’s complete, saturate it with water one last time.

And that’s all there is to it. Once everything is in place, all you need is patience. Try your best to leave the patch undisturbed for at least six months. This will give the mycelium enough time to colonize the wood chips.

In case it never rains, you can help by soaking the bed with water. Once the mushrooms start growing, keep an eye on them and make sure there aren’t any invasive species trying to take over your Psilocybe azurescens patch.
